Recently，Intertek Hardlines Lab has been accredited by CPSC on 16 CFR Part 1263. For the consumer products containing or designed to use a button cell or coin battery to the U.S market , Intertek can offer a solution on testing and certification service to help our customers in response to the mandatory safety standard ANSI/UL 4200A, which will take effect on March 19 this year.

ANSI/UL 4200A is required by the Reese 'Law and is also accepted by 16 CFR 1263 now. 

Per ANSI/UL 4200A-2023, the requirements for consumer products (excluding children’s toys) containing or designed to use button cell or coin batteries are as follows:

• Battery compartments containing replaceable button cell or coin batteries must be secured such that they require the use of a tool or at least two independent and simultaneous hand movements to open.
• Button cell or coin battery compartments must not allow such batteries to be accessed or liberated as a result of use and abuse testing.
• The packaging for the overall product must bear a warning.
• The product itself must bear a warning, if practicable.
• Accompanying instructions and manuals must include all of the applicable warnings.

Manufacturers or importers of products subject to any of the requirements under Reese’s Law shall issue a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC) for children’s products or a General Certificate of Compliance (GCC) for general-use products. The most important, children’s products subjected to Reese’s law have to be conducted by a third-party, CPSC-accepted laboratory to comply with the safety requirements.
