On September 7, 2012, the Indian Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY) announced the Requirement for Compulsory Registration through the Electronics & Information Technology Goods Order, 2012.  A total of 15 electronic products will be required to meet with the required Indian safety standards and complete mandatory registration before they are imported and sold in India. This mandate requires that all products entering Indian ports on April 3, 2013 and thereafter must comply with the requirements of Compulsory Registration Order and carry a Self Declaration Statement.  Goods not bearing the Self Declaration mark after April 3, 2013 cannot be cleared at Customs.  The table below shows the product and applicable standards.

Intertek has been recently accredited by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as an approved test laboratory and can perform the necessary testing needed to meet the requirements set forth by BIS.  With this new regulation, Intertek has ensured that we are able to meet our customers’ requests for testing and to support their efforts for registration.

REMIND:

• Testing MUST be conducted only at BIS recognized laboratories.
• CB report & certification are not directly acceptable for BIS registration, but it will be helpful to shorten the testing time & save cost.
• The manufacture will be taken as the registration holder, but application must be delivered by either local importer or any manufacturer authorized representative.
• If a product manufactured at multiple manufacturing location, samples from each of these manufacturing location must be submitted for testing and registration.
• Registration is valid for 2 years from the date of registration.
• No mark, but Products or Packaging label must carry wordings like “Self Declaration – Conforming to IS Standard No: Year” followed by “Registration No. xx..xx”.
