Latest Energy Labeling Requirements for Directional Household Lamps and LED Lamps

Recently, the EC Eco-design Regulatory Committee discussed on the draft rule on directional lamps (household and dedicated directional lamps), all LED lamps and related equipment to set more stringent energy efficiency requirements on lighting products to enter the European market.

CE Marking Directive is mandatory for lamps and luminaries, the updated ErP directives are:
-   Directive 1194/2012/EC – Directional lamps, LED lamps and other related equipment.
-   Directive 874/2012/EC – EU eco-design directive for the energy labeling of lamps and luminaries.

The eco-design requirements on directional lamps and LED lamps are phased out into three stages:
-   Stage 1: September 1, 2013
-   Stage 2: September 1, 2014
-   Stage 3: September 1, 2016

The applicable product range will include:
-   Directional compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs);
-   Other directional lamps (except LED lamps, CFL lamps and high-pressure gas discharge lamps);
-   Non-directional LED lamps and directional LED lamps;
-   Energy efficiency requirements for lighting controllers installed between the light source and the main power supply (excluding ballasts, fluorescent lamps and high-pressure gas discharge lamps).
