On 19 April 2018, the European Commission published Implementing Decision (EU) 2018/594 on its official journal, to identify Trimellitic Anhydride (TMA) as a substance of Very High Concern (SVHC). The number of substances on the SVHC Candidate List will updates from 181 to 182 in due course.

TMA can be used for the synthesis of polyester resin, polyimide resin, heat-resistant and insulating materials, PVC plasticizers, etc. It was proposed to identify Substances of Very High Concern in previous 16th batch consultations, but was not listed on the 16th candidate list due to disagreement.
