Based on the preparatory study to analyse the technical, environmental and economic aspects of lighting products and components, the European Commission have ｕｐｄａｔｅ the ecodesign requirements for lighting products and components.

After the new regulation entry into force, the following Commission Regulation shall be repealed: 1194/2012/EU, 244/2009/EC, 245/2009/EC.

This provision now is under discussion. It shall apply from 1 September 2018. The Commission shall review this Regulation no later than 1 September 2025.

◇ The new eco-design requirements shall apply in accordance with the following stages:

• Stage 1: 1 September 2018;
• Stage 2: 1 September 2020;
• Stage 3: 1 September 2024;

◇ Scope of new provision (brief):

• This Regulation establishes ecodesign requirements for placing on the market and putting into service of lighting products and lighting product components, including when they are integrated into other products.

◇ Not apply to lighting products and lighting product components, which are specified to operate exclusively in:

• military or civil defence equipment or installations;
• nuclear installations;
• means of transport for persons or goods other than those operated by a stationary motor;
• road, railway, marine or air traffic signalling;
• medical devices;
• laboratory equipment;
• electronic displays;
• pieces of art;
• environments with ambient temperatures below -20°C or above 50°C.

Main changes:

■ For Lighting Products and Lighting Parts:

◇ Energy Efficiency requirements:

	Maximum allowed rated power consumption in full-load mode	Maximum allowed rated power consumption in stand-by mode	rated power consumption in off-mode
Stage 1		Psb = 0.5W	there shall be no allowed rated power consumption in off-mode.

◇ Functionality Requirements:

◇ New accelerated endurance testing: the 6000 hours lumen maintenance change to accelerated endurance testing, which consist of three single tests:

• Test 1: temperature cycling test, the duration of this test is half the model’s rated life-time with a maximum of 1000h.
• Test 2: high temperature test, the duration of this test is half the model’s rated life-time with a maximum of 1000h.
• Test 3: switching test, the duration shall be 168h.
