Canada - Proposed amending Children’s Jewellery Regulations

Canada’s Department of Health has proposed to amend Children’s Jewellery Regulations, which include the amendment of the requirements of lead and addition of the requirements of cadmium. If the proposed regulations are approved, they shall repeal and replace SOR/2016-168 six months after publication.

Comparing to the proposed regulations with SOR/2016-168, the followings are the amendments:

  1. Children’s jewellery shall not contain more than 90 mg/kg of lead.
  2. Children’s jewellery shall not contain more than 130 mg/kg of cadmium if the jewellery item is small enough to be totally enclosed in the small parts cylinder when a force of not more than 4.45 N is applied.
