California Proposition 65 Bisphenol A (BPA) Update

Starting May 11, 2016, under California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also known as Proposition 65, companies with 10 or more employees manufacturing, distributing or selling the product(s) containing Bisphenol A (BPA) where the exposure to BPA is over the “safe harbor level” will be required to provide a clear and reasonable warning for that product.

On March 17, 2016, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) proposed an emergency regulation for Proposition 65 that a clear and reasonable warning label will be given for canned and bottled foods and beverages which contained BPA.

The content of warning sign should as below:

WARNING: Many cans containing foods and beverages sold here have epoxy linings used to avoid microbial contamination and extend shelf life. Lids on jars and caps on bottles may also have epoxy linings. Some of these linings can leach small amounts of Bisphenol A (BPA) into the food or beverage. BPA is a chemical known to the State of California to cause harm to the female reproductive system. For more information go to: www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/BPA .
