On 1/28/2021, Health Canada has issued a notice to update the measures to reduce the flame jetting risk for certain containers of pourable alcohol-based fuels and portable firepots that use pourable fuels.
Containers of pourable alcohol-based fuel are now expected to meet the requirements of ASTM F3429/F3429M-20 Standard Specification for Performance of Flame Mitigation Devices Installed in Disposable and Pre-Filled Flammable Liquid Containers, or the equivalent, while portable firepots that use pourable fuels shall follow the performance criteria in ASTM F3363-19 Standard Specification for Unvented Liquid/Gel Fuel-Burning Portable Devices, or the equivalent.
The authority also warns that it may take immediate compliance and enforcement action if any concerned product is believed to be dangerous to human health or safety, as dangerous products are prohibited from manufacture, import or sale according to the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA).
