The National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China (NHC) has proposed a new version of GB 4806.7 and shall replace 2016 version on food contact plastic materials and articles. Expiration date: Nov 20,2021.
The following are the highlight:

Food contact plastic materials and articles shall meet the requirements of GB 4806.1.

| a. The masterbatch shall be tested after being mixed with relevant raw materials such as resin or pellets according to the actual formulation and processed into plastic materials and articles that come into contact with food. b. Plastic materials and articles that come into contact with infant food shall be converted into mg/kg according to the area-to-volume ratio in actual use, and the limit is ≤ 60mg/kg. For starch-based plastic materials and articles with a starch content higher than 40%, if the total migration measured by the food simulant exceeds the limit, the chloroform extract shall be determined in accordance with GB 31604.8, and the result shall be determined based on the measured chloroform extract. c. Not applicable to starch-based plastic materials and articles with a starch content higher than 40%. d. Only applicable to food contact plastic materials and articles that use aromatic isocyanates and azo colorants. The migration limits of primary aromatic amines are specified in Appendix A of this standard, GB 9685 and related announcements, the limits shall meet these requirements. e. Only applicable to plastic materials and articles added with colorants. |

b. Plastic materials and articles for food contact shall comply with Appendix A and related announcements for the specific migration limit (SML), specific migration total limit [SML(T)], maximum Residual quantity (QM) and other physical and chemical indicators of plastic resin and its monomers and other starting materials.
c. Additives in food contact plastic materials and articles shall meet the requirements of GB 9685 and related announcements on the physical and chemical indicators of such as SML, SML(T), QM, etc.
5. Other requirements
Food contact plastic materials and articles that use coatings, inks and (or) adhesives shall also comply with the relevant national food safety standards for coatings, inks and (or) adhesives.
