The Governor of US New York State has signed Bill A8978 into law, which amend the requirements of children jewellery containing lead. The following are the highlight:

1. The upper limit of the total lead content shall be amended to 0.01% (100 ppm), which align with the lead limit of children products set out in CPSIA. Therefore, manufacturer shall not sell, or offer for sale children jewellery that contain total lead content > 0.004% (40 ppm) but < 0.01% (100 ppm), unless the product contains the required warning statement;
2. The statement “COMPLIES WITH FEDERAL STANDARDS.” in the warning statement shall be deleted and the warning shall be amended as follow:

   " WARNING: CONTAINS LEAD. MAY BE HARMFUL IF EATEN OR CHEWED.”
