The US Maine Legislature has passed Bill H.P.1113 - L.D. 1503 and adopt to a law which aimed to stop Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) pollution.

Prohibition
The sale or distribution of the following products containing intentionally added PFAS shall be prohibited in Maines after the effective date:

The prohibition on the consumer product can be exempted if it is determined that the use of PFAS is unavoidable currently.

Reporting
Starting from 1 January 2023, for a product for sale in Maine containing intentionally added PFAS, the manufacturer shall submit a written notification to the Department of Environmental Protection:

• A brief description of the product
• The purpose of PFAS used in the product
• The amount of each of the PFAS in the product
• The name, address, and the contact of the manufacturer
• Any additional information required by the department

Certificate of compliance
When the Department of Environmental Protection suspects that the product contains intentionally added PFAS, the manufacturer is required to provide a certificate to prove that the product does not contain intentionally added PFAS.

Fabric treatment: a substance applied to fabric to give the fabric one or more characteristics, including but not limited to stain resistance or water resistance.
