Australia - Approved Safety Standard for Basketball Rings and Backboards
The Commonwealth of Australia has published the Consumer Goods (Basketball Rings and Backboards) Safety Standard 2017, which shall be effective from 20 December 2017. The Trade Practices (Consumer Product Safety Standard) (Basketball Rings and Backboards) Regulations 2005 shall be repealed on 20 December 2018. Products complying with the preceding regulation shall have a 12-month transition period to fulfil the new requirements, which are summarized as follows:
Scope
The safety standard shall apply to basketball rings and backboards (including portable basketball systems) that are of a kind likely to be used for domestic use. However, it shall not apply to toy basketball rings or backboards for toy basketball rings.
Warnings
1. Each basketball ring or backboard shall be accompanied by a written warning and a warning symbol as shown below:

Clearly legible
All letters shall be upper-case and red, and appear on a white background
All letters of the word “WARNING” shall be at least 15 mm high
Letters of other words shall be at least 10 mm high

Warning symbol

Diameter of the outer edge of the circle shall be at least 120 mm
Circle and diagonal line shall be shown with red lines at least 5 mm wide
Human figure shall be entirely black
Basketball ring and backboard shall be outlined in black
|
The written warning and warning symbol shall be placed at a suitable position, depending on whether the product is packaged:

In a conspicuous place on the package; or
On a label fixed in such a place

Unpackaged products

In a conspicuous place on the ring or backboard; or
On a label fixed in such a place; or
On a conspicuous tag attached to the ring or backboard

2. Each backboard shall have the following warning permanently marked in a conspicuous place on the front of the backboard or on a label fixed in such a place:
