The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a direct final rule to revise 16 CFR Part 1221 Safety Standard for Play Yards. This final rule shall be effective on 20 January 2020. The followings are the highlight of the standard.

Each play yard that is manufactured or imported on or after 20 January 2020 shall comply with all applicable provisions of ASTM F406-19 while excluding following sections:

1. Section 5.17, mattresses for rigid sided products;
2. Section 5.20, record keeping;
3. Section 6, performance requirements for rigid sided products;
4. Section 8.1 through 8.10.5;
5. Section 10.1.1.1, assembly instruction.

Besides, the following requirement shall replace the requirements of section 9.4.2.10 of ASTM F406-19:

“For the products that have a separate mattress that is not permanently fixed in place: Use ONLY mattress/pad provided by manufacturer.”
