The Department of Health of Canada approved Regulations to amend Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products Regulations (SOR/2024-256).it will be effective on 18 March 2025, and the highlights are as follows:
- Removing the accreditation requirement for laboratories conducting routine quality control formaldehyde emissions testing
- Clarify and simplify record-keeping requirements; the contents of declaration are amended.
- Maintain the Regulations’ close alignment with TSCA Title VI in order to minimize international trade barriers.
- Make minor amendments (such as dealing with non-compliant lots, sampling and test method used for retesting, and changing the notification period from 2 days in CANFER to the 72 hours permitted in TSCA, etc) to provide clarification on issues brought forward by stakeholders.
