The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has approved a regulation on the prohibition of certain single-use plastic products and oxo-degradable plastic products. It shall enter into force on 3 July 2021.

After 3 July 2021, products made from oxo-degradable plastic and the following single-use plastic product shall be prohibited:

1. Cotton swab
2. Cutlery
3. Plate
4. Drinking straw
5. Stirring stick
6. Balloon stick and the relative holding device, excluding for industrial or commercial purposed, which are not for consumers’ use
7. Food containers made of expanded polystyrene, with or without lid, and the food:
   1. are intended to be consumed immediately;
   2. are consumed from the container; and
   3. can be consumed without further preparation.
8. Beverage containers made of expended polystyrene, including the closures and lids.
9. Beverage cups made of expended polystyrene, including the closures and lids.
