On 19 November 2020, the Standardization Administration of China has published a voluntary standard GB/T 39498-2020 on restriction of hazardous substances in consumer products, which will be implemented from 1 June 2021.The following are the highlight:
The chemical restrictions in the standard are mostly for toys, and there are some for other consumer products like jewellery, electrical appliances, leather goods and skin-contact products.
Examples of the restricted chemicals are:

VOC (e.g. benzene, toluene, formaldehyde)

Bisphenol A

Chlorinated solvents

Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs)

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)

Nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylates

N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances

Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (C10-C13) (SCCP)

Phthalates
-
Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Fragrances
