On Oct 12 and Dec 30, 2022, China's bicycle safety requirements, nine standards of GB (/T) 3565 were officially issued successively. This is the third revision of this standard. GB 3565 has been revised from 1 standard to 9 standards, the standard level is in line with the international standard, and continues to provide technical support for the safety of Chinese bicycle products. GB/T3565.1-2022 will be implemented after Aug 01, 2023, while the rest of GB (/T) 3565 will be implemented after Oct 01, 2023.
In Jan 2023, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued a new version of standards for bicycles and children's bicycles, namely ISO 4210:2023 and ISO 8098:2023, replacing ISO 4210:2015 and ISO 8098:2014. The new version of the standards has come into effect.
Meanwhile, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) published EN ISO 4210:2023 and EN ISO 8098:2023. The transitional period between the new and old standards will be 6 months. After July 31, 2023, European countries will implement the new test standards.
The main technical changes of the standards are as follows:
GB 3565.2-2022
- Change the scope of standard and add "shared bike";
- Change the terms and definitions;
- Addition a requirement for harmful substances;
- Addition a requirement for the safety related fastener reliability and strength;
- Addition test method of crack inspection;
- Change requirement for protrusion, brake, steering, frame, front fork, wheel and tyre assembley, rims, tyres and tubes;
- Addition a requirement for of front mudguard;
- Change the requirements of pedal and pedal/crank drive system;
- Addition a requirement for the drive belt;
- Change the requirements of chain and drive belt protective device, saddle and seat-post, spoke protector;
- Addition a requirement for luggage carriers;
- Change requirements for road tests, lighting systems, reflectors and warning devices;
- Change requirements for user's manual;
- Change requirements for label;
- Delete some test methods and descriptions.
ISO 4210:2023/EN ISO 4210:2023
- Improvement of minimum failure torque;
- Change in minimum braking performance value;
- Improvement test method of brakes heat-resistance;
- Improvement test methods and requirements of handlebar grips and plugs;
- Addition a requirements of angel-adjustable handlebar stem;
- Addition torque test and fatigue test for the frame - rear disc brake assembly;
- Addition test for composite front fork with disc brake;
- Addition test of the front fork steerer tube and stem assembly for fork intended for use with drop handlebar;
- Improvement test method for “wheel and tyre assembly”;
- Change in front wheel removal test force when retention devices unsecured;
- Addition tests for wheel and tyre assembly- composite wheels;
- Improvement impact test for front mudguard;
- Change a requirement for chain-wheel and belt-drive protective device;
- Addition static strength test for saddle rail (composite);
- Change test method for seat post fatigue;
- Addition of icons in requirement of marking.
ISO 8098:2023
- Change the failure torque of bolts, nuts and other fasteners
- Addition requirement for parallel brake handle;
- Change test methods and requirements for handlebar grips and plugs;
- Improvement of wheel and tyre assembly-clearance;
- Change the fatigue test method for crank assembly;
- Change requirements for the chain or belt protection device.
