One New SVHC Added to the Candidate List for Authorisation, EU SVHC Updated to 224 Entries
 

On 10 June 2022, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has announced the SVHC Candidate List for authorisation as of June 2022, adding 1 new substance to the list. It now contains 224 entries of substances.

The substance N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide has been added to the Candidate List as it may cause cancer or genetic defects. It is mostly used in polymers and when manufacturing other chemicals, textiles, leather or fur.

Details of the addition to the list are as follows:

From 5 January 2021, if SVHC substances are present in an article placed on the EU market in a concentration above 0.1 % w/w, the EU supplier of that article needs to submit a SCIP notification to ECHA under the EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD, Directive 2008/98/EC).

After 5 January 2021, if substances present in an article as such or in a complex object placed on the EU market in a concentration above 0.1 % w/w are added to the Candidate List, the supplier of that article need to submit a new SCIP notification or update a previous submitted SCIP notification for that article at the time of the next supply or placement on the market to any customer or as a result of an import, after the substance has been included in the Candidate List.
