On February 16,2022. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has approved new standard 16 CFR 1241 Safety Standard for Crib Mattresses. It shall enter into force on 15 August 2022.

Scope:
Crib mattresses includes all crib mattresses within the scope of ASTM F2933-21 including Full-size crib mattresses, non-full-size crib mattresses, and aftermarket mattresses for play yards and non-full-size cribs.

Requirements:
Each crib mattress shall comply with ASTM F2933-21 with variations mentioned in 16 CFR 1241. The variations include:

• General requirements
• Test method
• Marking and labelling
• Instruction literature

Example of labelling:

Full-size crib mattress

After-market mattress for mesh/fabric sided products and rigid sided non-rectangular products

After-market mattress for rigid sided rectangular non-full-size cribs
