The Australia Government has published legislative instrument on the Consumer Goods (Toys Containing Magnets) Safety Standard 2020. It shall be effective immediately. The previous Consumer Protection
Notice No. 5 of 2010, Consumer Product Safety Standard for Children’s Toys Containing Magnets can still be applied for a transitional period of 12 months until 27 August 2021.
During the transitional period, suppliers must meet the requirements of either:

Consumer Goods (Toys Containing Magnets) Safety Standard 2020, or Consumer Protection Notice No. 5 of 2010 (Consumer Product Safety Standard for Children’s Toys Containing Magnets).

After the transitional period, suppliers must meet the requirements of the Consumer Goods (Toys Containing Magnets) Safety Standard 2020.
Scope
The Standard shall apply to magnetic toy, which means a product or material supplied new that:

Is designed or clearly intended for use in play by a child under 14 years of age; and
-
Is supplied with one or more magnets or magnetic components.
Requirements
Magnetic toys shall comply with one of the following standards:

AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2019 (Sections 4.1 and 4.31 with modifications)

EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018 (Section 4.23)

ISO 8124-1:2018 (Sections 4.1 and 4.31 with modifications)
-
ASTM F963-17 (Sections 4.38, 8.5 and 8.9 with modifications)
