Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions serving a wide range of industries around the world, recently announced that it has helped Shandong Futaste Co., Ltd. to accomplish a life cycle assessment (LCA) on its xylitol products. The LCA was a complete assessment conducted on xylitol produced by Futaste in China according to ISO 14040/44 standards, including carbon footprint, water footprint, energy footprint, recourse consumption, eutrophication, acidification, etc. The assessment report was prepared in accordance with the requirements of ISO, and was reviewed by independent external experts.

This LCA covered the whole process of xylitol products from cradle to grave. The results quantified the environmental footprint of  Fustate xylitol to communicate the environmental impact of its products with outside world. Analyzing the life cycle of a product enables a company to understand the significant environmental aspects and impacts of its product in its overall life cycle, from raw materials and purchase through its production, packaging and transportation, and provides a robust references for the company to further develop highly environmentally friendly value added products."
