Michigan Proposes Bill for Heavy Metals in Child Care Articles and Toys

The State of Michigan has recently proposed Senate Bill No.17 to amend the Public Health Code. This bill does not apply to the sale of collectible toys that is not marketed or intended for play purpose.

The Challenge:
According to the bill, no one shall manufacture, sell, offer for sale, or transfer a toy (including jewelry designed and made for use in play) or child care article with a part that contains a >0.06% by weight of one or more of the following heavy metals - Cadmium, Lead, or Mercury, excluding glass or crystal decorative components.

Child care article means a product designed or intended by the manufacturer to facilitate sleep, relaxation, or feeding of children or to help children with sucking or teething.
