In the first quarter of 2012, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ) launched a national supervision and inspection on leather shoes and sanitary absorbent pads. A total of 120 batches of leather shoes produced by 120 manufacturers from 7 provinces and cities were inspected, and 113 batches conformed to the standard with a pass rate of 94.2%. A total of 90 batches of sanitary absorbent pads (including 4 batches of pantiliner) from 90 manufacturers of 8 provinces and cities were inspected, and 86 batches conformed to the standard with a pass rate of 95.6%.

This spot check was conducted according to the product standards QB/T 1002-2005 Leather Shoes and QB/T 2955-2008 Casual Shoes, and ten key items were inspected including sole loading (sole and upper), sole abrasion, whole shoe flexing and shank hardness. For the sanitary absorbent pads, the inspection was carried out in accordance with the GB/T 8939-2008 Sanitary Absorbent Pads (including pantiliner), GB 15979-2002 Hygienic Standard for Disposable Sanitary Products as well as some company standards which have been registered and validated, and the quality requirements marked on products. Nine key items were inspected including total bacterial colonies, coliform, pH value, absorbency and infiltration amount.

The main failure items of leather shoes were sole loading (sole and upper) and sole abrasion, the main failure item of sanitary absorbent pads was infiltration amount.
