India - Approved Toy (Quality Control) Order 2020
 

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India has approved the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020. It shall enter into force on 1 September 2020. The following is the highlight of this Order:

Scope

This Order shall apply to

toys and products that are designed or clearly intended, whether or not exclusively, for use in play by children under 14 years old.

toys that are initially received by the children and they are subjected to reasonably foreseeable conditions of normal use and abuse.

Requirements

Toys shall comply with the following standards:

Use of Standard Mark

Toys complying with the above applicable standards shall bear the Standard Mark, according to Scheme I of Schedule II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018, as shown below:

Note:

*: According to Bureau of India Standards, the most updated version of IS 9873 (Part 1) is 2019, which is different from the standard mentioned in this Order. The standard version may be subjected to change in the approved Order. In addition, the Identical standard is ISO 8124-1:2018.
