The UK entered the transition period for exiting the EU on 31 January 2020, during which there will be a period of negotiation with the European Commission. Intertek has created a market update to provide customers with an overview of the impacts to trade, the regulatory conformity approach, and the protocols to be undertaken to enable mandatory controlled products to access both single markets of the United Kingdom and the European Union following the UK’s exit on 31 December 2020.

Products placed on the EU market will require CE marking – for products deemed under mandatory regulatory controls, engagement with an EU 27 Notified Body will be necessary. Products placed on the UK market after 31 December 2020 will require UKCA marking – for products deemed under mandatory regulatory controls, engagement with a UK Approved Body will be necessary.

Intertek has established UK and mainland European Notified Bodies and will be able to offer continued third-party conformity testing, inspection, and certification services for product access to both UK and EU 27 markets once the UK completes the exit process.
